On The Run petrol stations Adelaide

On The Run petrol stations in Adelaide and a brief company background is discussed here.

On The Run Background

Peregrine Corporation, which owns On The Run (OTR), Smokemart, and the Krispy Kreme SA licence, is owned by the Shahin family. On the Run service stations began in 1984 when the late Fred Shahin, who was briefly unemployed after immigrating here, purchased a service station at Woodville. He had previously studied to be an accountant and worked for the United Nations for 27 years.

Fast forward more than two decades and his sons ensured that Mobil petrol stations that were not independently owned were bought in 2010. This was followed by the same type of purchase of corporate BP outlets by May 2013. They apparently owned 109 petrol stations around South Australia by then.

Many of these OTR petrol stations have franchise stores inside them such as Oporto, Hungry Jacks, Brumby’s, Wendy’s, Happy Wash, Subway, Smokemart, Lotteries and C Coffee. They all trade 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They are similar, therefore, to a 7-Eleven. It was the latter who sold the Mobil stores to On The Run in South Australia in 2010.

Stunts and criticism

Promotional stunts have been common at On The Run. They sell fuel for under $1 for a couple of hours sometimes at one or more locations just to get people in the door buying food. The latter is likely to be where the real profit comes from since fuel margins are usually tight.

There is a common criticism that you see in the public’s comments in the Facebook page of the newspaper. On The Run are nearly always first to put up their petrol prices at the start of a new pricing cycle. They are nearly always the last to bring their prices down to match competitors. You will have to keep an eye on that and judge for yourself sometime? There are fuel price watch web sites that can assist on any given day. One is the Adelaide section of Motor Mouth My Price Search.

I would like the management of the OTR service stations to know that the Mitchell Park station has the most efficient, friendly and obliging staff of any business I have dealt with since opening. New staff are trained well and quickly. All staff go out of their way to make a visit enjoyable. Thank you
