Some selfish Aussies are unhappy with $620 million worth of unwanted Christmas presents, according to research for some free publicity for an online selling platform. Comment below if you wish as we take a brief look at it?
Adelaide Christmas and Boxing Day shopping hours 2016 have been extended. Shops in the suburbs will now able to trade from 9:00am to 5:00pm on the Proclamation Day (Boxing Day) and New Year’s Day public holidays. These fall on a weekday this year so that is why. Exceptions will be the usual places like small hardware stores, petrol stations and so on.
There was an absurd situation in previous years where everything outside of the city centre was a ghost town of closed shops on the actual public holidays (Friday last time). I have previously taken it upon myself as a local citizen to apologise here to tourists for the humiliating situation. The Boxing Day sales in Rundle Mall were wildly popular in recent years. People stocked up on bargain requirements outside of the normal work slavery trap, despite the usual public criticism (and I am guilty of it). Now they can do that in the suburbs when shops will be open on the designated public holidays.
Things are slowly starting to change as we grow up a tiny bit in Adelaide. We should not allow critics of extended shopping hours to get in the way with their excuses. Of course there are people who want to spend time with family on public holidays. However, tourists and shift workers alike need access to shops for healthy food and other requirements at times that suit them. There are plenty of unemployed and underemployed people who can work on the public holidays to give regular retail workers a rest.
