Classic car parts Adelaide – restoration parts, ideas

Classic car parts for the restoration of your car could be found through these classic car parts Adelaide “horders” and sellers. Other ideas of where or how to find parts are also presented. If you know of any others then you are welcome to mention them in a comment post below.

As more people look to the past when consumer products were made properly up until the early 1980s, more classic cars are being restored. Companies are springing up all over Australia to make and source parts for restoration projects. Some people sell their completed projects for tens of thousands of dollars while others keep them as a decent, reliable car. Here are some suggestions for sourcing some parts.

Collectors and sellers of parts

You may find what you are looking for in these two places. I suspect that more will pop up in the coming years as local manufacturers leave Australia and parts become harder to find and will have to be made specifically for restorers of antique and vintage cars.

  • Antique Motor Spares – 33 Fourth Street Wingfield
  • Rare Spares

There are a few other places where you might find parts. If you know a farmer or drive past a farm with old cars on the property then asking if you can look at their cars might yield results if you offer to pay for parts. Wrecking yards may have a few parts sometimes as well. Restoration and car clubs might also be helpful in locating parts so Google the type of car club to see if they are in Adelaide. There are regular car shows with vintage cars in Adelaide and the car owners may provide helpful information if you go there and ask. Car forums online are a wealth of knowledge and some of these may provide helpful information.

Places that sell old cars or offer classifieds

Another source of parts is cars that have not yet been restored but could serve as an inexpensive spare parts car for a current project of the same make and model.

Finally, you may find it difficult to insure your restored vintage car. So the next step is to obtain quotes from places like Shannons.

This post as brief as it may be is merely a starting point of ideas for your research. Hopefully it will help a bit but comment below with your local knowledge if you like?

Update 12/3/15:

Simon Taylor’s Old Farts Garage in Parkside now repairs, services and restores classic cars as well. They use replicated parts, according to a media article this week.
